Halliday Wine Companion - Philip Rich
From a tiny 4ha vineyard planted in 1976. A deep, plummy red. With its core of dark fruits, dark chocolate shavings, freshly-turned earth and gentle waft of cigar box, there's a lot going on here! Equally good on the plush yet dense, well-detailed and structured palate. A wine that will evolve slowly yet surely over the next decade or more. Only 90 dozen produced. Rating 96
mattinson. - Campbell Mattinson
Perhaps the most defining aspect of this wine its medium weight, though its polish, and its spread of flavours, and its even glide through the finish, are all also up there. It shows notes of bay leaves, redcurrants, olives and ripples of herbs; all set within a firm, deliberate context. The word Claret is no longer allowable in an Australian wine context but if it were, this wine would apply, it’s in that style, which is why it’s so deliciously drinkable. This is cabernet, fruit-ripe but with an appropriately savoury/herbal edge. It will age well. Rating 93
Winepilot - Jeni Port
A ripe, concentrated Yarra Valley Cabernet that looks very much in the regional zone in both tannin structure and overall elegance of expression. Scents of summer black berry fruits, cassis, jalapeño, wild herbs and leaf. It’s still very much a youngster, tightly formed. Some swishes in the glass opens the wine right up, releasing some plushness and middle palate warmth and texture. The palate delivers all that is promised by the aromas with extra layers of acacia and briar wrapped in dense, fine Cabernet tannins. Rating 93
