2022 CHARDONNAY - NEW RELEASE!

A$45.00
sold out

Our Estate Vineyard. Old vines and fastidious viticulture produce fruit that sings a song of both place and variety.

After originally planting just two rows of Chardonnay in 1977, the results inspired planting a further 0.8 Hectares in 1984. These vines are hand pruned, dressed and harvested. Made without added yeast, fining or filtration, this wine is estate bottled, with a limited production of 1,350 bottles!

REVIEWS

Winepilot - Jeni Port

What a stunner! A standout Chardonnay from a standout region for the grape, lemony bright, linear and super crisp. Scents in lemon, lemon balm and light herbals, grapefruit, nectarine and almond meal. Fermentation and maturation in seasoned barrels bring a natural balance and emerging texture to the wine. There’s an energy here, delivered through some punchy (pun intended!) acidity and offering the groundwork for a bright future which is very much on the cards. A light dusting of oak spice is an added bonus. Finishes with a clean, crisp grapefruit pithiness. Superb. Rating 96

Halliday Wine Companion - Philip Rich

From a 0.8ha vineyard planted in Nillumbik in '84. A very bright green gold. Complex with aromas of ripe stone fruits, acacia honey, nuts and a little fresh vanilla nougat. Even better on the concentrated, structured and very nicely balanced palate, which finishes lemon pithy and long.  Rating 95

mattinson. - Campbell Mattinson

This is a wonderful bottle of chardonnay. It was grown on a tiny plot of vines – just 0.8 of a hectare, to be precise – that was planted in 1984, which is pretty much ancient in Yarra Valley terms. That is, this is a rare wine from an important vineyard. This history wouldn’t matter so much if wasn’t for the quality in the glass, which is excellent. The wine tastes of golden apples and peaches, pears and cedarwood, with bright citrus notes pushing through the finish. Even the acidity in this wine has a keen flavour to it. The palate here is generous and the finish is long; in summary, this is a stylish chardonnay but it’s also a delicious one. Rating 95
