Grown by us on our historic and iconic Lance's Vineyard, established 1976, one of the oldest vineyards in the Nillumbik subregion of the Yarra Valley. Time has shown this vineyard to consistently be one of Australia's most distinguished sites.
“Whole bunch-pressed directly to French oak (33% new) for wild fermentation, and 11 months maturation on lees. Gleaming, pale straw-green; it is the complexity, integrity and length of Yarra Valley chardonnays as good as this that show the limitations of warmer regions' wines. Here white peach/nectarine flavours lead the way, albeit with complex texture and structure built on the back-palate by citrussy acidity and the positive influence of seriously good Burgundian oak. 96 Points" Halliday Wine Companion
After originally planting just two rows of Chardonnay in 1977, the results inspired planting a further 0.8 Hectares in 1984. These vines are hand pruned, dressed and harvested. Made without added yeast, fining or filtration, this wine is estate bottled, with a limited production.
These wines, being unfiltered, may have developed a slight deposit in the bottle, so settling and careful pouring/decanting is recommended.
