Winepilot - Jeni Port
Boasts a lingering, beautiful scent both delicate and so pretty in lifted violet, rose, pressed flowers, dried herbs, raspberry, red plum and cherry. It is amplified, if anything, on the palate which is delivered in sinewy tannins and enhanced with layers of spice and just a touch of earthy undergrowth. The addition of a small percentage of whole bunches (10%) and new French oak (15%) during winemaking pays off here. Finishes firm, fine-edged, red fruited and nicely understated in spices and herbs. Has so much to offer both now and over the next decade. Rating 95
Halliday Wine Companion - Philip Rich
From a 2ha vineyard at Nillumbik and planted in '76, '98 and '03. 10% whole bunches, minimal new oak. A bright, medium ruby red. A lovely bouquet with perfumed, ripe red cherry, peony and a little incense. Medium bodied, this is fragrant and textured on the palate while tannins are velvety and rich. One of those wines that, when you drink your last bottle 6–10 years from now, you'll wish you had more of! Rating 95

This beautiful Pinot Noir from Punch in the Yarra Valley was grown on vines that were planted in 1976, 1998 and 2003. The fact that there were three plantings might make it sound as though there are a lot of vines in play here, but the truth is that this vineyard is still only two hectares in total. We’re talking boutique wine farming here. This 2023 release is a wine typical of the estate, in that it has a run of sap, forest berry and violet characters sitting in the centre of the palate, right there amid the mainstay of fresh, blue-red berry, gently jellied fruit. This wine is suggestive of undergrowth, and of twiggy herbs, in an inherent and/or unforced way. It carries fine-grained tannin, and a well-sustained finish. It’s absolutely delightful to drink now, but it will cellar. Rating 94
